"Blue Moon" has recently been brought back to the guitar community, especially through the interpretation of Tommy Emmanuel (very tastefully played in Chet Atkins style). In this course you will learn how Joe Pass approached this well-known jazz standard. It sounds significantly different, more like swing and mainstream jazz. That's why the motto here is: Play like Joe Pass! You will learn the head, the accompaniment with walking bass, a melodic solo over the chords and last but not least a chord melody version with fills and harmonic embellishment and substitution à la Joe Pass. The examples are self-explanatory, learn the music and benefit from it!

Lesson 1Introduction

Duration: min

Let me introduce you to the topics covered in the course "Blue Moon".

Lesson 2Theme Melody

Duration: min

The well-known melody, played in time and in tempo.

Lesson 3Accompaniment

Duration: min

There are many small and large things to discover here, especially the walking bass, which supports the theme and the solo.

Lesson 4Single Note Solo

Duration: min

The solo is not technically difficult. Harmonically, there are many fancy notes that lead into the next chord. This is also how Joe Pass did it, but he always included highly virtuoso passages that make it difficult to play along. With the right practice, everyone can do this.

Lesson 5Chord Melody Joe Pass Style

Duration: min

Now you can be endlessly inspired. Benefit from this chord melody version with some signature Joe Pass licks!
